MORE FUN, MORE WAYS THROUGH NEW PRODUCT INNOVATION
New product development companies often use claims like – decades in the making! …. or …. created by astronauts in outer space! – and when we all hear claims like that we know, well, those claims are a bit overstated.
Our newest Big Block innovation was created over the last few months, and right here in California, with a group of children and their teachers. And actually, it’s not rocket-science, but it does underscore how when children connect simple shapes, into whatever they can imagine, how that very simple act can enable such wonderful creative expression.
“The idea came one day from watching a group of pre-school children playing with our Big Blocks”, says Laurel Tucker, Co-Founder at Bright Day. “Everyone knows the magic of the Big Blocks is how children stack the blocks, and roll balls through channel blocks, and fasten together the different blocks with our different size connectors. Well, on this particular day the children were connecting, and connecting, and connecting – making expansive structures all joined together, it was marvelous”, she says. Continuing, “that is where the idea for BIG LINK BIG BLOCKS began”.
BIG LINK is all about 14 unique connecting shapes, and about attaching, or joining, and fastening, or coupling, and hitching or bolting, and all that – linking the block pieces into as many creative possibilities as a young mind can imagine. The children made vehicles like airplanes, helicopters, and autos – they made animals like elephants, and tigers – they made creatures like robots and monsters – they made boys and girls – they made city buildings and country ranches – the children made furniture that could be used in their bedrooms and classrooms – they spent hours and some spent days building and creating.
We have attached some photos, inspired by the builds we have seen made thus far – and when you see these you will know – pretty darn amazing – and there is so much more – more imagination, more creativity, more building.
It’s well known by educators that our Big Blocks offer so much in the way of cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development – all the creativity and imagination – all the collaboration and communication – all the critical thinking and problem solving – all the self-esteem and confidence building. The strength and stamina, coordination and dexterity – and so much more.
